I saw the very day
your parents brought you here.
I knew they'd love you dearly
and that you'd have no fear.

I saw you grow, I saw your steps
as you learned to climb mine.
I watched your mother dry your tears
and I saw your childhood shine.

My walls surrounded and protected
you and yours throughout the storms.
My heart the heat for all of you
to keep your bodies warm.

I saw you glance from my windows
upon the twilight afar.
I witnessed as you dreamed
of becoming a movie star.

I felt your anxious footsteps
when the morn' of Christmas arrived-
You and your two other sisters
made me feel alive.

I was there as you woke from a bad dream
and I saw your mother's love
comforting and protecting
like the soft wings of a dove.

And as you grew I saw you,
a young woman, not a child.
You weren't here in this old house much-
and I missed your sweet, sweet smile.

I knew the day would come
when you and your sisters would leave.
But did you know that like a person,
I too, did miss you and grieve?

When you come back to visit,
the two who live here still.
My heart fills with wonderful memories,
and I once again feel fulfilled.

For I know that I was a part-
along with your mother and dad
of raising and protecting you
from the elements and the bad.

Please remember me, my dear one,
for now you've been on your own.
In my heart you'll always be there.
For there truly is no place like Home.
